Rambles

I have finally found myself to 'fame' after spending the last few months helping MDM Esther out with her work. Honestly speaking, I didn't even pass my IPPT to earn a Caporal Rank to begin with which personally make me undeserving of that little thing!

With twenty-six more 'calendar day' and nineteen more working days to ORD, freedom awaits me and I'm so looking forward to it! One week ago, you can safely say that I couldn't bear to leave the unit because the people there were awesome. However, as day gone by, but I begin to have no qualms with this problem anymore.

Allow me to expound a little bit more in regard to the people I observed during the past few weeks in my squadron!

Our new OC, MR Ooh Yi Jie was a pretty nice bloke. Normally those burly, nerdy boys I know are portrayed as being nice and friendly people.  He was nice to the extent of allowing me to rest in the conference room for the whole morning! Maybe such triviality doesn't affect his rice bowl since 'DXOs will get fired if found guilty of allowing his man to sleep in the unit' is not found in his employment policy. NOW being such a Mr Good Man, I can totally comprehend why Jermaine is so fond to stick with him.

Buying Present For Our Dear Friend

After a present-hunting day out with Kenneth Yik, I gleefully learnt that he is a meticulous guy

Kenneth, the meticulous guy
I have never seen a man who can get so stressed-up over choosing for a present for particularly a GUY in my whole lifetime. He's like, 'the greatest fear of choosing a present for a friend is to acknowledge the fact that he doesn't like what I chose for him.'

From my personal experience with make friends, their concept of choosing a friend's present is normally ' Let's share and buy a not-so-steep gadget from Challenger' (Okay, maybe that's my perspective).

The sole reason I find acceptable from Kenneth was when he explained that the Paranoia stems from Wei Siang being his best NS friend. Spending a bomb on something he doesn't like/ or already have may result in sheer awkwardness between both of them.

He added, 'For a good friend like him, I will go to the expense of buying anything even it's beyond budget'. In other words, he meant that he has no budget when it comes to buying a present for Wei Siang.

Headache Shopping For The Gift
Also, for a fact that he has never been so meticulous and paranoid with such a situation before, shows how much he treasures their friendship. And because he was one of those people who conveniently chip in monies with a group of friends to buy a present, he has no idea

His constant complaint of migraine was owing to the fact that he had overused his brain cells from pondering what to purchase that could justify the amount Wei Siang will have to spend on our treats. Really, all the time wasted thinking what to buy for the first three hours could have been spent worthwhile by choosing a better present only if we had done our homework earlier.

We met at 1300hrs and only began shopping at 1600hrs! We thought of branded shirt, underwear, jackets, watch, shoes, iPod, perfume and sundry. However none we thought that he might adore. Yes, we had also thought of getting him a jersey too; but we have no idea what kind of jersey he desire.

We want that surprise factor from him, y'know? Our initial plan was to get him out on any dates near his birthday and make every single treat on the house for him (inclusive a nice dinner, Kbox and a surprise birthday cake).

However, Wei Siang's concept of being the birthday boy was being the one paying for others' meals. He doesn't buy our idea of we-treat-you-because-it-is-your-birthday and if we insist on paying for his meal he'd rather not celebrate his birthday with us.

On the way back, I suggested that we could buy a drink for Wei Siang. It is only right that we should do something back for him when he actually bothered to:

1.  Whip up a dish for Kenneth when he was ravenous
2.  Stand a treat on us on his birthday

On his birthday celebration, I'm so gonna take down his surprise face (dunno what will he be thinking though) when he unwraps our gifts.

Some of our lamest & craziest ideas:
1.  Buy seven pieces of Aimani underwear and label them accordingly to seven days of the week
2.  Smash a cake on his face
3.  Make three shirts so that each states 'I', 'Love' & 'Wei Siang'.
4.  Make one fake and real presents. The fake one will be used to trick him into believing our haphazardness into planning his present.

Seriously speaking, Wei Siang shouldn't have went to the expense of treating us such a fabulous meal at Kenny Roger since it's his birthday.

Sponsorship
Our kind Kenneth insisted to treat us drinks from Koi for waiting for him on last Friday. Of course, it's natural to feel bad inside for letting such a nice friend to allow him to go to the expense.

In the end, I persuaded Kenneth not to treat me with the drinks since I don't think there's any obligations for him to act with that kind of civilities. Wei Siang was pretty touched when he saw us at the Courts when we handed him the Startbuck drinks.

In order not to make Wei Siang return him the money, our generous Kenneth instinctively stated that the drinks was one of his unused Starbucks voucher. As Wei Siang did not want to put him in difficult spot, he did not reject his offer and pretended to believe in what Kenneth instate.

My office!

What kind of holy shit are you SAF talking about? If SAF has already eased ban for us NSFs to bring camera phones in, then please provide a valid reason on why isn't our Changi Air Base being selected?

Oh, if you guys ever wonder how I managed to sneak in my camera phone, I actually have no idea too! Blame on the slacking security by the Field Defense Squadron(FDS a.k.a 608 Sqn) for allowing that to happen (Whoops, I shouldn't have this written down but what the heck, who cares?). Security loopholes are inevitable!
The cubicle that I always talked about all the time in my blog. Finally snapped a picture and able to share with you guys!
Duh. That's me and my unkempt, disheveled appearance.
Bet I don't have to explain what that is.

The pantry where NSFs gather around for breaks.
Cups with printed names of the Regulars and NSFs. I have no slightest idea why they didn't make new ones for the later coming batch personnel (Ming Han & me).
Kong Guan Biscuits are the only substances to replace my meals and managed to sustain me for the past weeks. <3
OC & CO rooms where I dreaded most to visit and the red sofa I used to rest my head on during the absence of our CO.
Shredder, Fax and the Photocopier I frequent most for my work.
The front door.
The resting area where our ex-OC used to challenge Zhi Xin on Chinese. Apparently, it has also became my new sleeping area.
The Conference Room where Ops Brief and End Of Day Brief held. Honestly speaking, the notion of having such briefs are pretty futile because those informations provided in the slides are none of our business.

The Squadron Command Post (SQCP), a place I have the least desire to stay on!

Sending Daphne off to the Airport!!

My younger Sister, Daphne Ong is going for four months to China and will be back only by the spring of 2013!

It's hard to say goodbye.

That sentimental feeling engulfed my heart when my sister hugged and bade adieu to all of us. That moment was precious and unforgettable. Mom was deeply hurt by the 4-month long separation with her younger daughter. When Daphne hugged her the second time before she left for the arriving plane, both of them were crying painfully- mom's tears were priceless.

As for myself, tears formed up in my eyes when I witnessed such a touching scene. It reminded how unbearable my mom was when my elder sister left for China five years ago. It hurts me a lot to see them crying!
